Amazing and enchanting world of dreams

Hello all, Thanks for visiting me on the day one. Hope the theme and my writing keeps up your interest till the end.

Humans have always been curious about Dreams. We always wanted to know all about dreams and their meanings. Centuries ago, kings got their dreams interpreted and noted on wax coated stones, ancient Egyptians wrote a book with interpretations of 100 dreams and even till date we have many researches and theories going on to understand this enchanting world of Dreams.

Dream world is yet to be completely explored, there can be many interpretations of your dream. When I was doing my engineering and staying in college hostel, we had a Kashmiri neighbour who had this book which had mythological interpretations about the animals we see in dreams. That was interesting.

This is as vast and elusive as universe. In this series we will talk about the most common dreams like falling down, running away, loosing tooth as well as dreams that include animals like cats, dogs, snakes and even some DeJa’Vu dreams, dreams where you are lost or chasing someone, or the one with presence of water.

Dreams can lead to different experiences and emotions, from being entertaining, fun, romantic, disturbing, frightening, and sometimes bizarre,

If we go by the theoretical definition as mentioned on Wikipedia

What are Dreams?

A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. The content and purpose of dreams are not fully understood, although they have been a topic of scientific, philosophical and religious interest throughout recorded history.

Types of Dreams:

Dreams can be of many types majorly its Day dreaming, Lucid dreams and nightmares

Day dreaming which we can get when we take a nap during the day.

Lucid Dreams – have your ever realised that you are dreaming and still you are going with the flow with a little control over what’s happening, yes those are Lucid dreams. They are generally part of an ongoing dream. Being a programmer, I like calling them nested dreams, a dream within a dream.

Nightmares we all know those leave us frightened, scares and it wakes us up with a jerk or scream

Apart from these there are prophetic dreams, recurring dreams, healing dreams, signal dreams and so on.

Why do we forget dreams?

I am doing a lot of research and the thoughts are around dreams and dreams only, I was planning to share my yesterday night’s dream with all of you to start with, but I do not remember it.

Most people do not remember dreams, even sometimes at night when they get up, they are remembering it but by the morning no matter how hard you try you cannot recollect it, isn’t it?

The reason why we do not remember dreams is due to lack of a chemical called “norepinephrine” in our cerebral cortex. Cerebral cortex is the outer layer of neural tissue of the cerebrum of the brain in humans and other mammals.

Norepinephrine chemical is responsible for sending signals or let’s say communicate between nerve cells. It is also a stress hormone.

So if you don’t remember your dreams it’s a “Chemical locha” in our brain.

Now a very important question comes, Why do we dream?

Honestly there is no scientific answer to understand why and how we dream. There are just theories. Theories given by someone as well researched as Sigmund Freud to Mythological predictions in various religious books. But nothing is conclusive. The theories heavily depend on a person’s beliefs.

Lets just dive in and swim freely and understand and interpret as many dreams as we can.

Tomorrow I will be back with the first dream validation, what is it when you see babies in your dreams, what it means, good or bad? Stay tuned, see you tomorrow.

Wow a talk on dreams, interesting. I believe that every dream has a reason and also a lot of people tell that what you see in your dream is always the opposite of actuals. Like if you see a person dying it means their good time is going to start & alot of other things.

But then there are some dreams which stay with me forever, there are many dreams from my childhood which I still remember. There are also some repetitive dreams in similar or different forms. Would love to read your views on these if you happen to write them in the coming days.
