Quinoa? I hate my doctor #A2ZChallenge

We are just winding up my birthday party. Oh yes! I hit it out of the park. Half Century. Yayy!!

Party went well, guest turnout was more than 90%. Suvin has a sales background. So, he does a strong follow up with everyone he invites. Food and music are also amazing. I can’t wait to “unwrap the gifts”. This is my favourite part about parties. Even after kids’ birthday parties, I am the one super excited than them to open the gifts.

Nisarg and Ketki are both here. Nisarg is getting graduated this year from London School of Economics. He has plans to study further. My little boy! I still remember his first day at school.  Ketki is planning to pursue her MBBS from Imperial college London which is a 6 years course. So, she has time to get graduated. She has grown up into a beautiful lady. They are both away from us. However, the silver lining is, they are together. This gives my heart a little solace. It’s such a happy day for me. All three of them are around. Suvin had done all the arrangements not just around food, but decoration to guestlist, as well as theme coordinated dresses too. We finished everything here and reached home. Did I tell you my mom is also here for my birthday? Yes, she has travelled all the way to be here on my special day. I can understand her emotions completely as now even I long to see my babies. Moms never change. Their love for their children, irrespective of their age keeps but constant.

Tomorrow we have our routine, health check-up scheduled. I have requested Suvin so many times that after a party I will be tired and won’t be very happy going for a check-up and give blood samples, only if he would have heard. He is stubborn idiot sweetheart. We were fighting when we both fell asleep.

It is morning. Suvin woke me up without tea. Yes, he generally prepares tea and then wakes me up. Because we have to give the fasting sample. The man is already sitting in our drawing room, I quickly changed, did the morning rituals and reached with a grumpy face still complaining to my mom, “You see this man? I haven’t even opened my presents yet, and he wants to pierce those needles through my veins”. My mum knowing me has more trust on her darling son in law than me. At this moment, I wish I should also get a good husband for my daughter. Anyways, the half day has already passed by with all these samples and tests and now we are free to talk to my mom and kids. We just plan to unwind and share memories. These are the best times. By tomorrow, reports will come.

After a relaxed day and night spent, Suvin woke me up with his special tea. “Happy Birthday +2 Sweetheart”. He wished me in his special way. Umm… Age doesn’t matter, Love does.

By evening, test reports were uploaded. And when I entered with tea and snacks, all four of them were giving me those stares ‘See, I told you’, ‘You never listen to me’, ‘Take care of yourself’ and many similar feelings were in the air. I am somehow feeling I am being blamed for bad result in some random test.

“Reports are here, lets show it to the doctor”, Suvin almost ordered. I got kinda irked up and yelled back. “why what’s wrong? Is there any problem in your report, is everything Ok with you?” I was curious and stressed at the same time. “I am perfectly fine; your sweet tooth is taking you towards diabetes” He was upset I could see that. I gathered myself back. “You are ok, Na? I am relieved, then let’s go to doctor in few days I am ok too!” I tried to curtails the visit to doctor. But, one look at Suvin’s face confirmed his non-conformance. I thought it’s better to get up and get ready. He has this special ability of making a face to convey his thoughts and feelings through non-verbal expressions.

Finally, I got to know that my blood sugar levels are high, not as high though to purge my sweet indulgences. But the Doctor is saying because of my age, I need to exercise restraint while eating. ‘Excuse me? What age? It’s just 2 days I turned 50 what will change in 2 days?’, I thought!!

“Quinoa.”, said Doctor Awasthi with certain strictness in his tone. “You have to replace your rice intake with Quinoa. I had never heard of Quinoa in my 50 years of existence on planet. I suspected the Doctor to be influenced by some Medical Representative for pushing their products. I so wanted to tell Suvin to skip eating this at least alternate day. But, with this Semi Doctor, ‘read Ketki’, present at home, I can’t even discuss it with him openly. She is anyways happy that her parents are opting for healthy lifestyle. In fact, she has started sounding more like a partner of the Medical Representative I suspected Doctor Awasthi to be hand-in-glove with. “Quinoa is gluten-free, has all nine essential amino acids, stuffed with Vitamin B, iron, potassium, antioxidants and blah blah blah.”, She keeps going on about it all day. She has downloaded many Quinoa recipe videos from YouTube on my laptop. Leave some space for my songs, will ya??

This thing is kind of cross between brown rice and oatmeal in texture, something similar to porridge, just little more granules. I placed the pack on my kitchen slab and stared at it like a murder weapon. I dunno how this will taste? Aging is meh!!!

Aww, I feel for Antara. Quinoa doesn’t seem like something anyone can enjoy ever. I really hope she doesn’t need to eat it for a long time. Lovely post again
