Which online series are you watching? Here is an Honest Review about ‘Paatal Lok’.

We as a family stopped watching what the DTH serves long ago. But with the Covid-19 Lockdown coming into force, I could see more and more people moving to OTT platforms for entertainment. The serve you all kind of content and the competition to get more subscribers is cutthroat. OTT platforms cater to all genres and age group. Plus, the advantage it has over regular television is that you can watch whatever you want when you want, do not have to remember the show or movie time or watch the boring repeat shows. Plus, no commercial breaks.

Out of the few OTT series we have binged in this month, I thought of sharing my review about one particular series. ‘Paatal Lok’

Plot:

The series id directed by Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy. It is produced by Clean stale films, which is an Anushka Sharma Production. It’s a short series of episodes.

A not so hopeful about his career cop lands the case of a lifetime when four suspects are nabbed in the assassination attempt of an eminent journalist. A case than can change his life forever and can give him the chance to do real police work. That is investigation rather than just doing ‘Bandobast’ of mob and traffic.

The case is more than it meets the eye. It turns out to be a devious maze, which challenges his perception about the suspects as well as the case al together. The pursuit of it leads him to ‘Paatal Lok’, and to shocking discoveries in the past of the four suspects. The pasts are painful, which makes him go deeper to find the truth about the assassination plot.

Actors:

There are many prominent actors. Specially people you regularly get to see in different series on different platforms.

Paatal Lok as a series belongs to Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi and abhishek banerjee

Jaideep Ahlawat:

Investigating officer OR Puzzle Solver

He wanted to go in Indian Army. When he could not clear SSB he ventured into acting. People who are saying ‘Jaideep Ahlawat’ is a newbie, let me correct that perception. He is in the industry since 2008, that’s more than a decade long journey before landing a lead role. He started with movies like Aakrosh and khatta meetha. I remember him from ‘Raazi’, where he trains Alia Bhatt. Otherwise he was seen in many successful movies like ‘Gabbar is back’, ‘gangs of wasseypur’, ‘Raees’ and many others.

He is Hathi Ram Chaudhary, the inspector from ‘Outer Jamana paar thana’.

Neeraj Kabi:

Target ?

He is a well-known name in Indian film industry. theatre actor, theatre director and Acting Coach known for his works in national and International films and theater, and television. His prominent commercial role was in Meghna Gulzar’s Talvar. He is being acting coach himself, he has perfected the role of Sanjeev Mehra, a prominent journalist very well.

Abhishek Banerjee:

Prime Accused

A Delhi boy born and brought up in the city. Moved to Mumbai in 2008 and has been working as casting director for numerous films. He ventured into acting with Stree, Bala etc in Bollywood and in OTT platform who can forget the ‘Compounder’ from Mirzapur. Most of his acting is through his eyes. In Pataal Lok also he has less dialogs, most of the communication is through expressions.

He plays one of the main accused of the assassination plan. Vishal Tyagi infamously known as Hathoda Tyagi.

My Take:

The series is crisp and short. It is action packed and tight. Acting by all the actors justifies the roles or characters they are offered. The season open with Hathi Ram telling his subordinates that the world is divided into 3 parts. Swarg Lok where God stays, Dharti Lok where humans stay and Paatal Lok where insects stays. And no one cares about how they live or survive. He is so frustrated with his work, jurisdiction and profile that he terms his workplace ‘Outer Jamana Paar thana’ as Paatal Lok. Lutyens’s Delhi as Swarg Lok.  And what made me glad that he included Noida in Dharti Lok, I am happy living at a balanced place.

The series is true to be a thriller, till the last episode the mystery remains intact. Only in last episode you can unscrambled the jig saw puzzle.

All the 4 accused have given a strong story. And their journey is painful. All four come from different place just one think is common that all these places belong to ‘Paatal Lok’.

The relationship Hathi ram had with his father and the struggle he has, to have a better relationship with his son is shown well.

What happens in political world, how media fuels these aspirations and blurs the difference between news and fake news for the viewers is shown well.

If you are an animal lover, specially Dogs then you are going to love the ending. You will hear many times in the series ‘Man love dog good man, Dog love man also good man‘.

Conclusion:

I would rate the series 4 Star out of 5.

Already shared the good things about the series, so you know why 4 starts. Now I will tell you why I have retained one star.

Would retain one star as the disparity shown in caste system or based on religion is not balanced. One is shown in bad light and there is not second side.

For few, the ending was not clear. The plot or the mystery was not clear even at the end.

Why the accused came to Delhi? What happened to their mission? Why? And even clarity about mysterious characters like Masterji.

I do not want to give spoilers and hence keeping this short.

You can catch this one on Amazon Prime.

Watched this amazing crime thriller last week. Must say it has well webbed story line with power packed performance. Every character is impeccable in acting and leaves a strong mark on the audience . It shows the dark side of media world and politicians and also how CBI, Police work in their complex system. I would highly recommend it specially to people who feel that our Indian story writers n directors are not good enough.
