As a parent, we are the first teachers of to our kids. Right from manners, behaviour to studies and professionalism we are always guiding them throughout their journey. There is one important aspect that we are responsible for teaching our kids is Money Management, is there a right or wrong way to teach about money?
When we were kids, especially during summer vacation when cousins and extended families were coming together we used to play games like monopoly, tambola, game of life etc. which makes kids aware about money. The basic reasons why we need better money management skills.
Few years ago I had written a post about how we can make kids learn about money. Do have a look, and if you have more points do leave a comment too.
Old ways of teaching about money
As a kid I used to do petty bank things, as online banking, UPI payments was not there. So depositing cheques, getting passbook entries done, withdrawing small amount of cash as well as going to the local store to buy stuff and bring back correct change was few of my money lessons. A few decades ago parents had a very different way to inculcate money management habit in kids at a very young age. “Penny saved is penny earned”, was always the underlying message.
Digital age of parenting
Now we have everything at fingertips, I have never been to the bank home branch in last 18-20 years. UPI and payment wallets have further made it easy to transact. So as a parent, I wondered, what will be the most entertaining, engaging and interactive way to teach about money.
Most of the kids have one or the other gadget with full access to internet. Recently I found-out that there are many websites where kids can play games related to money management. But as a parent I always get worried if these sites are safe for kids? What sort of advertisements will pop up, if they have a spyware or malware, what about viruses etc. So after research of few days, I have come across a website that has many games, to teach kids about money. Its safe and has a wide range of games like entrepreneur, business, money management etc. I have tried a few before introducing the site to the kids.
I myself had so much fun playing a variety of games on this website, kids are also super busy playing and learning at the same time.
The website has unimaginable array of games from restaurant simulation game, grocery store game, farming simulation games till even games related to crypto currency.
What I tried and loved
One of my favorite game on this site is Real estate tycoon. There are 3 modes of the game Career mode, time trial mode and endless mode. Here you have to start with small sums, start building your empire and with trading expand it. The goal is to make profit from the arbitrage of buying low and selling.
Lego city Adventure, Power puff girls panic in townsville, bitcoin bubble shooter, grocery cashier are few more games I played on the site. It was fun, in fact few games are from my childhood cartoon so it was nostalgic too.
There is neither right or wrong age nor way to teach kids about money. The sooner and more engaging way is the best way as per me. As a parent what I found, I am sharing here with you all.
If you have more ways to teach about money, do leave a comment on the post, I would like to learn more from you all.
